Fr. Vitalis Kondo MSP

I was born in Ugbema-Mbagen, now Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, in 1965. After secondary school, I joined the Missionaries of St. Paul (MSP) where I began my missionary formation on 23rd October 1988. I completed two years of spiritual formation at the MSP formation house at Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, South-west Nigeria in 1990. Later in October of 1990, I was admitted into the philosophy faculty of the National Missionary Seminary of St. Paul, an institute of the MSP. I completed my studies in philosophy in 1993. In October 1993 I began my theological studies at the same institute. I took my oath of permanent membership and was ordained a Deacon on the 2nd February 1997. On June 28th I was ordained a Priest for the missions by the Right Reverend Martin Igwe Uzoukwu, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, north-central Nigeria. I was already an ordained Missionary priest of the Catholic Church before i came to study journalism at the ALC, a school for Journalism and Art & Design with the sole aim of improving on my skill in Communicating the good news.

After my ordination and after a short spell in the diocese of Oyo in South-West Nigeria, I was sent to Zambia to study Christian communication at the Africa Literature Centre, a school for Journalism and Art & Design,  Mindolo, Kitwe, in the Copperbelt Region of Zambia where i graduated  in 1998. After my graduation I returned to work in my home country Nigeria for seven years as assistant editor and editor of the Catholic Ambassador Magazine, a Mission magazine of the Missionary Society of St Paul. Thereafter, I was appointed to the United Kingdom mission of the MSP.

I arrived at the UK on May 25 2006 to work in the diocese of Leeds,  in the North of England. I began my priestly ministry at St Cuthbert’s Parish Bradford from June 10 to November 16 2006. Then I moved to St James’ parish 144 New Hey Road, Oaks in Huddersfield, where I stayed in residence to work at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as an honorary chaplain until September 2007. In October 2007, I was appointed Assistant Priest at the newly created Parish of the Holy Redeemer comprising three churches, St Patrick’s 34 New North Road, HD1 5JY, Holy Family Parish Slaithwaithe  and Our Lady of Lourdes, Sheepbridge all in Huddersfield. In August 2010, I was transferred by the Missionary Society of St Paul to Portsmouth Diocese. I arrived at Thomas More Parish,  42 Exton Road, Iford, Bournemouth, County Dorset, BH6 5QG  in the Southwest of England on September 10, 2010, where I now serve as parish priest.
